Crazy New World

Well it's a new year and I'm off on this crazy new adventure of...blogging! I've gotten all of these great ideas and inspiration from other blogs out there so I feel the need to give back! So here it is, my contrabution to the teaching world. I'm going to share my teaching adventure with the blogging world out there!

I teach 5th grade reading in Florida. My philosophy is that if you walk into my reading classroom you should find the students....READING. Or learning about reading. NOT regurgitating information. Ok, (stepping down from soap box) I have found that a combination of literature groups, the Daily 5, and Readers Workshop works the best for me and my students. I will post more about this later :) but for this very first post I just wanted to put myself out there!

  2. So glad you have joined the blogging world of teachers! It is such an amazing group of supporters! I know it for sure has made my first year of teaching that much easier.

I can so be on that soapbox with you! I get so annoyed with my co-workers when they are having their students memorize 30 vocabulary words. They also think I am crazy for doing a workshop style classroom, but I know it is what is best for my kiddos! They need to learn all of those strategies that are taught in mini-lessons! I can only hope that they will realize that it is what is best for the kids one day!

  3. I am sending a prayer out there that one day "they" do realize what is best for the kids one day....or at least retire soon....
